I have written about food and drink, environmental issues, land reform and the arts for the likes of The Guardian, Vittles, Noble Rot, National Geographic, The Sunday Times, Wicked Leeks, The Fence and Pellicle.

PREVIOUS & CURRENT WORK

  • Radio & Podcasts

I have wide-ranging experience producing audio documentaries, podcasts and radio programmes for national radio.

At BBC Radio 4 I’ve produced episodes of the Food Programme on: the transformation of Buckfast; The Wild West of Whisky; the future of food writing; smoke, fire and flame; climate change and winemaking; Scotland’s Good Food Nation bill; the art of paying closer attention to our food and more. The Food Programme episode I am most proud of is ‘Glasgow: Seeking Asylum and Finding Refuge in Food’, for which I won best radio programme at the Scottish Refugee Council media awards. I most recently made an episode of Archive on 4 called Motorway City.

At BBC Radio Scotland I worked on live programmes (Mornings, Shereen, Debate Night Extra), made packages for various radio programmes (Out of Doors, Good Morning Scotland, Religion & Ethics) and produced Podlitical, including this episode which made the news.

I was part of the team that founded the Greater Govanhill Radio Show, an offshoot of the award-winning magazine, and developed a special radio show for the Scottish Refugee Festival.

I produced two series of A Future Made for Heriot-Watt University, made with Bespoken Media.

  • Presenting & Reporting

I’ve reported stories for The Food Programme and Feedback on BBC Radio 4. Topics include the murky world of whisky cask investment, traditional smoking methods in food and drink and Glasgow’s refugees and asylum seekers.

I’ve reported on topics such as food & drink, foraging and homelessness live on BBC Radio Scotland, and reported packages for programmes including Good Morning Scotland, Out of Doors and Sunday Morning. You can watch a clip from my TV report for BBC News on Magnet Fishing here.

I also presented two series of the podcast A Future Made, and have hosted the Greater Govanhill radio show, broadcast from community station Radio Buena Vida in Govanhill, where I have lived for over five years.

  • Writing

I have bylines in The Guardian, National Geographic, Vittles, Noble Rot, The List’s Eating & Drinking Guide, The Sunday Times, Pellicle, The Fence, Greater Govanhill, Wicked Leeks, Cask & Still, Glug, The Daily Record, and many more.

I have a specialism in food and drink; I worked in hospitality for a decade then as a food reviewer for the List’s Eating & Drinking Guide for five years, and have written about the politics of food and drink for national newspapers, as well as leading independent publications and magazines.

I reviewed Edinburgh Fringe shows for the Sunday Times and The Skinny, and have worked at newspapers as a journalist and subeditor. More recently, I have been focusing on land reform, as well as topics such as urban planning.
